Commissioner’s Welcome

WHL_Logo_jpeg

For decades, the Western Hockey League has been recognized as a world leader in player development. This was evident again at this past year’s NHL Draft as five WHL players were selected in the first round.

It is not surprising, when you look at the many improvements we have made recently, that the WHL continues to not only be a leading supplier of talent to the NHL but also to Canada’s National teams and Canadian University programs. All of our 22 Member Club’s take great pride in offering our players the best development and education opportunities in the game today. When you consider the quality of our world class coaching and training facilities or our comprehensive education and scholarship program, it is no wonder the top young prospects in Western Canada and Western United States dream of one day playing in the WHL.

The WHL and our Member Clubs are fully committed to offering the best possible environment for players to achieve their goals from an academic and hockey development standpoint. Through strict League-wide process we monitor a player’s progress during high school to ensure he is in a position to pursue a post-secondary education and take full advantage of the WHL Scholarship program. From a hockey perspective, we not only offer the finest coaching available in the game today but also the opportunity to compete against the finest junior age players in the world.

As a world leader in player development and scholarship opportunities, we look forward to providing you with all the information you need to make an informed decision on your hockey career. We trust our WHL Prospects Central website will provide the information you are looking for, however, should you require any further insight into the WHL please contact Zach Hodder WHL Manager, Player Development for assistance at hodderz@whl.ca or 403-693-3058.
